The Tata Nano is the cheapest passenger car in the world. The Nano was launched originally in 2009. The initial responses from the Indian customers were very promising. But of late the sales have dropped considerably. On 19th May 2015 the makers of this compact car, Tata Motors, has launched new models of the Nano with a new name the Nano Gen X.
Variants and prices
Presently the Nano GenX is available in 5 petrol variants. The variants are the XE, the XM, the XT, the XMA AMT and the XTA AMT. Two of the variants have AMT transmission. The prices are Rupees 2.0 to 2.73 lakh. A diesel model of the Nano is expected in 2015.
The cute little Nano GenX has a front fascia with a big smile, vertical tail lamp clusters, externally operated ORVMs, a single wind screen wiper, fog lamps for the higher variants, tinted glasses and body coloured bumpers are the features of the exterior. The small boot of 110 litres can be accessed from the cabin only. The Nano Gen X comes in colours of dazzle blue, damson purple, Persian rose, meteor silver, pearl white, sangria re and Royal gold
The cabin of the Nano has more head room than many other cars. The basic features of the XE variant include a manual AC, fabric seats, full folding rear seat and Brake Assist. The XT variant has remote central locking, power steering, frontal power windows, fog lamps at the front and a 2 Din music system with Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio controls. There are no airbags in any of the models.
Engine and mileages
The engine of the Nano is located at the rear. The Tata Nano is powered by a 624 cc, 38 bhp, 51 NM torque engine mated to a 4 speed gear box. The manual variants have mileages of 23.6 kmpl and the auto variants 21.9 kmpl. The Nano Gen X takes 10.5 sec for 0 to 100 kmph acceleration and the top speed is 125 kmpl.
The suspensions are independent wishbone with McPherson strut type at the front and the independent semi triangular arm with coil springs type at the rear. The suspension system along with the large ground clearance makes the ride comfortable.
